Where the money Goes
New Horizons is an alternative high school in New Haven where we do 30 hours of facilitation, including 20 hours of mindfulness courses, 10 hours of one-on-one mentoring, and counseling with students. Courses include mindfulness and movement, mindfulness and vocational skills, and mindfulness and music production.
Following the success at New Horizons, we would like to bring our suite of mindfulness courses and mindful institutional development to the middle school population - allowing for collaboration with students . Central to this would be the employing near-peer mentors in the form of students from New Horizons.
Emerge CT is a prison re-entry program where Elm Village has taught classes to the adult and youth populations. We currently employ high-potential individuals from Emerge supporting them to be mindfulness facilitators and near-peer mentors. Elm Village would like to facilitate a course centering on Leadership Development for the recently incarcerated.
Elm Village teaches a class weekly at Recovery House - transitional housing for individuals with substance abuse issues. This class is called "Mindfulness and Substance Abuse Recovery." We would hope to expand our offerings, including providing mindfulness programming for the at-risk women in the shelter population.
Don't forget to have fun!
